In the west-central part of Switzerland in the canton of Bern is a valley known as the Emmental, a dreamy, hilly landscape dotted with wooden bridges, cheese dairies, castles and idyllic farms. This ‘Edelweiss Chalet’ Cuckoo clock pays tribute to this region with its finely crafted rendering of a typical Emmental-style chalet. The region is also famous for its woodcarving craftsmen, two of whom you’ll find represented here on either side of the chalet’s edifice. A proud ibex, with its majestic, backward-curling horns stands off to the left side of the scene while a classic Emmental fountain well graces the right side.
An arrangement of the widely admired Swiss Edelweiss flower, hand-carved from the wood of linden trees, graces the bottom-centre portion of the chalet beneath the clock.
As with all Loetscher chalet cuckoo clocks, the flowers and boulders sprinkled throughout the scene are gathered and crafted from sand found from the banks of Lake Brienz.
The chalet and figurines are hand-carved from locally sourced wood and hand-painted, which makes them original and unique. With the quartz clock, there is no need for winding, and the clock’s cuckoo sound is a high-quality recording. The weights are for aesthetic purposes and are made of solid iron.
Night feature : A manual switch that allows you to turn off the cuckoo sounds without interrupting the clock movement.
Quartz movement with a cuckoo call on the full hour. This model is powered by two ‘C’ batteries.
